Make Time for ME

“ME TIME” can be hard to come by these days. We put so much time and effort into nurturing our families, our friends, and our career – but never stop to take the time for ourselves. For example, you wouldn’t hesitate to stay 20 minutes late after work to meet a deadline. You would be happy to take a 20 minute coffee break for a friend in need. But you continue to make excuses as to why you can’t take just 20 minutes a day for yourself. But if you don’t, all those whom you take care of now, might soon be taking care of you.

Over a lifetime, twenty minutes a day of physical activity can literally be the difference between life and death. According to the World Health Organization (WHO),

Insufficient physical activity is 1 of the 10 leading risk factors for global mortality and is on the rise in many countries… People who are insufficiently active have a 20% to 30% increased risk of death compared to people who are sufficiently active.

But you might be thinking, “That’s not enough time to get a good workout in”. While you might prefer 60-90 minute sweat sessions in the gym as your “exercise routine”; the truth is, you don’t need to spend all that time just to be HEALTHY. WHO goes on to explain that…

‘physical activity’ should not be confused with ‘exercise’, which is a subcategory of physical activity that is planned, structured, repetitive, and aims to improve or maintain one or more components of physical fitness. Both, moderate and vigorous intensity physical activity brings health benefits.

So even if you aren’t on a regular workout schedule, a quick 20 minutes a day of walking or stretching can’t hurt. It might even refocus you for the rest of the day. If you don’t have a regular workout routine because you simply don’t have the TIME – guess what? Twenty minutes is less 2% of your day but still plenty of time for a good workout.

For example, here at Power Systems, we are currently gearing up for one of the fitness industry’s biggest events of the year, the 2016 IHRSA Conference and Expo. This is our opportunity to interact with thousands of you from all over the world! We are working not only to create a welcoming and exciting experience in our booth, but also to provide new and quality products to offer everyone!

During this busy and exciting time, your Power Systems team still makes time to practice what we preach. Throughout the day small groups gather for 20 – 30 minute workouts 3-5 days a week because we realize that we can’t give YOU OUR BEST, if we aren’t AT OUR BEST. In fact, throughout this process we have found great ways to maximize our 20 minutes. If you are attending the IHRSA Conference this year, we would LOVE for you to get your 20 minutes in with us! Sign up for our IHRSA newsletter to find out how you can maximize YOUR 20 minutes during the conference.

No matter how hectic things seem, take our advice and find twenty minutes a day for yourself! You are worth it! Check out this video and you will see how easily daily physical activity can translate into your personal life, your professional life, and your overall well-being:
